How to Prep Your Site for Delivery Day

Congrats! You’ve partnered with a qualified and knowledgeable imaging broker, and you’ve selected the ideal mobile MRI/CT machine for your healthcare facility’s needs. All that’s left to do is prepare your site for delivery day. We understand this can, at times, feel daunting.  However, your imaging partner can provide guidance to your team to properly prepare for a successful delivery and quality scanning! If this is your first time using a mobile imaging unit, Cube Mobile Imaging is here to guide you through site preparation to ensure you get the most out of your diagnostic equipment.

Mobile Imaging Equipment Delivery Prep

Site assessment

Factors such as accessibility, proximity to utilities, and security should all be relevant factors in a site assessment. Brokers should be able to deliver the unit(s) with ample space to conduct a safe hookup while confirming that the site is near the appropriate utilities and data connections to support the imaging unit. The surface where the unit will be parked must be as flat as possible and must be able to support its weight. Sinking can occur even on asphalt, especially in high temperatures. Concrete is the ideal surface material, but in the event it’s unavailable, rigging/metal plates should be attached to the unit’s feet to increase weight distribution.

Infrastructure

Facilities must ensure their site is ready to support a mobile imaging unit. They must verify that the site has adequate electrical capacity and outlets, along with backup solutions in the event of a power failure. The proper connectors must also be acquired depending on the unit. Consult with the broker in advance to determine which connector is needed–though Russellstoll is the most common brand. Mobile units require consumables, so it is imperative that an inventory of relevant items is generated prior to delivery and the facility has an abundant stock.

Network

Reliable internet or another applicable intranet is an absolute must for the smooth facilitation of data transfer and communication between the unit and the facility’s network. It may be necessary to contact the facility’s IT department prior to delivery to expedite the delivery process. Having an IT expert onsite day of delivery can also provide solutions should the unit’s network require some adjustments or troubleshooting. Prior to delivery, assure that a qualified IT professional is available to provide solutions and assist.

Compliance

Every state is different, but each has its own rules and regulations for mobile imaging units. Relevant documents will be needed from both your facility and from your broker, and if your facility is located in a certificate of need (CON) state, there will be additional documentation required. Your state’s health department can give you all the necessary information regarding what documents are needed based on your state’s regulations. It is also recommended that facilities consult with their state’s radiation safety department concerning best practices.

Applications Training

If the technologists utilizing the mobile unit are not as familiar with the system software, applications training may be needed.  Be sure to let your imaging broker know if this may be required, as they can present you with options to choose from!  Applications Training may also be needed if you need assistance in building imaging protocols.
