Mobile MRI Siting Specifications: Here’s What Your Site Needs to Host a Mobile MRI

Here at Cube Mobile Imaging, we understand that pursuing a mobile MRI rental can seem daunting.  From questions to planning…it can seem like a lot!  We want to assure you that our well-qualified team is here to help at each step of the process.  Especially BEFORE the Mobile MRI arrives onsite.  At the end of the day, our goal is the same – we want patients to be cared for well.  And the first step to caring well is planning well.

What do you need to plan for?

The first thing to do when considering a Mobile MRI for your facility is to determine if your facility has what it needs to host a Mobile MRI.  We’ve boiled this down to three key things:

POWER – PAD – CONNECTIVITY

POWER

The most important thing when planning for a Mobile MRI Rental is power.  For a Mobile MRI, you will need to ensure that you have 480V, 3 Phase power at 150-200 Amps.  This power will need to be clean and consistent.  If your team is unsure about the trustworthiness of power, then we would recommend hiring an electrician to perform a test to confirm potential “dirty power”, fluctuations, low voltage conditions, etc.

Most mobile coaches, including all coaches in our fleet, connect to the facility power by-way of a RussellStoll plug.  The facility must have a RussellStoll female outlet for the Mobile MRI to connect to power.  During the planning process, our Operations Team can assist in confirming you have the right outlet!

PAD

Where will the Mobile MRI be parked?  Typically, each site will have what is called a “mobile pad”, or essentially a parking spot for the mobile while it is onsite and scanning.  The pad is typically made of concrete or asphalt, is level, and large enough to host a mobile coach.  Our team will work with your team to determine what kind of pad you have, and if there are any abnormalities we will need to navigate.  We understand each site is different.

Sometimes there are sites that require rigging to get the mobile coach into place.  If that is the case, no worries.  Our team will also work with you on developing a rigging plan as well.

CONNECTIVITY

How do we get the images from the trailer to the Radiologist?!  Our mobile coaches are outfitted with various ethernet ports that connect the system workstation to the facility.  What we typically expect to see is an ethernet port located near the power outlet.  If this is there, our team will work with your IT Team or PACS Admin to configure the system to connect and communicate to your network.  We will also ensure test images are sent and confirmed.
