Siting Specifications: Here’s What Your Site Needs to Host a Mobile CT
Adding a mobile CT rental unit to your facility is not as simple as plugging in a toaster or changing a lightbulb. There are critical siting and power specifications that must be met to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.
At Cube Mobile Imaging, we’re here to help guide healthcare providers through every logistical and technical detail, starting with assessing your site’s readiness to host a Mobile CT unit.
What Do You Need to Prepare For?
There are three main areas to evaluate when preparing for a mobile CT installation:
PARKING – POWER – COMPLIANCE
Parking
Where will the Mobile CT be stationed?
Site readiness is highly dependent on having adequate space for the unit. Facilities typically station the Mobile CT across several unused parking spaces or in an auxiliary lot. Regardless of location, the surface must be flat and level to evenly distribute the weight of the trailer and support safe operation.
Cube Mobile Imaging’s team will also need clear, spacious access to connectors to complete the setup proficiently. Additionally, it’s important to allow room for walkway coverings or ramps to ensure safe and convenient patient access to the unit.
Power
What type of power does a Mobile CT require?
Mobile CT trailers require 3-phase power, with exact output needs varying based on the specific unit. After conducting a power audit, our consultants will help determine which CT model best suits your facility’s infrastructure and clinical needs.
Most Mobile CT units use a RussellStoll plug, which must connect to an externally accessible receptacle. If your facility doesn’t currently have one installed, we’ll work with you to confirm the correct hardware is in place ahead of time.
Compliance
Have you met your state’s regulatory requirements?
One of the most commonly overlooked aspects of site readiness is regulatory documentation. Many states require that facilities hosting a mobile CT unit meet the conditions of a Certificate of Need (CON).
Before your unit arrives, your healthcare administration team should verify and be ready to provide documentation demonstrating compliance with applicable state radiation safety regulations. We strongly recommend contacting your state’s radiation safety department to confirm all requirements have been met in advance.
